Eastern High Flourish in Life

Our improvement journey and what we have achieved

Eastern High fell into special measures in December 2014, a year after the amalgamation of its two predecessor schools. Since then a new leadership team and governing body have been established.

GCSE results have improved every year since 2014. The school was removed from special measures in November 2017 after making strong progress in all recommendations.

The linked 2014 Estyn report is our latest report but does not take into account the improvements made through the monitoring visits.

GCSE Summary

The school has just received its best GCSE results in a long time. Since the schools inception in 2013 results for pupils achieving 5 A* -C including English and Maths GCSE’s have been as follows.

2016 13%
2017 32%
2018

38%

We are proud that in the last year we have nearly trebled our results since 2016. There is still a long way to go but the downward trend of results has been reversed. We are also happy to report that 98% or our students gained at least 1 GCSE or equivalent qualification.

We would like to thank the local community for supporting us throughout the transition from the predecessor schools to Eastern High. We are now most definitely on the right track and look forward to an increase in our results next year.

KS3 Summary

Our main figures in Key stage 3 are found below in the table.

The information shows that the school is improving and going in the right direction. The improvement in Mathematics and English will continue as our focus on Literacy and Numeracy skills is maintained. This focus is highlighted by our curriculum plan with a big emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy skills in Key stage 3.
