Eastern High Flourish in Life

Christmas greetings

I must write this blog more often

I must write this blog more often

I must write this blog more often . . .

The end of the Autumn term in a school always seems to be the busiest time.   There’s a lot that has happened over the last few weeks:

  • The Christmas Concert this week was excellent as usual with performances from all Year groups and some amazing harmonies.
  • The school won the Engineering Team Challenge award, run by the Institute of Civil Engineers in November.   The competition was for South Wales schools and over 40 teams participated.    The prize will be presented by the Minister for Science and Skills in the New Year.
  • Year 7&8 girls and Year 10 boys football teams are both in the final 16 of the Welsh Cup   The year 10 team need a special mention.  They remain unbeaten this year.
  • Our Year 11 girls netball team have qualified for the County finals in March
  • Our Rugby development officer is having a real impact on the quality of rugby provision in the school and local community.   There have been 48 fixtures played this term so far and we are looking forward to some success in cup competitions later next year.
  • On Children in Need day this year we had a drop down day.   This is where we put aside the normal curriculum for a day and do alternative learning activities such as, Enterprise, Health education, College application preparation and careers.   This year as part of the day, the school raised £1272 for Children in Need.
  • It was great to see some of our talented musicians heading off to London one weekend recently as the only members of the National Orchestra For All.   This j prestigious programme will see the four students playing in some of the largest venues in the UK with the orchestra.
  • We are now able to offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award – look out for details soon

I will write more often in the New Year.  I promise

In the meantime, Have a really good Christmas and all the best for the New Year
